Specialization
is a skill that druids get once they reach
level 30. If you make a specialization check
it will reduce your chance of fizzling on
a spell and also reduce the amount of mana
you use on that cast of the spell. The chance
of making the specialization check is determined
by the level of your specalization skilll.
The 5 skills are:
Abjuration
Alteration
Conjuration
Divination
Evocation
You
can train all of these skills to 50 but you
can only train one of these skills past 50.
The first skill that exceeds 50 will be the
one that can be taken above, so you want to
make sure that you get the skill you want
to specialize in past 50 before any of the
others reach there. With the realease of The
new EQ expansion Gates of Discord you will
be able to train a AA to be able to take a
second skill over 50 as well.
Which skill you decide to take above 50 is
totally up to you and how you play. If you
plan on being a main healer and buffing alot
then you probably want to train Alteration.
If you solo alot and use DoT's Conjuration
will be your best bet. Direct Damage spells
are classed in Evocation so if you Quad kite
alot then this would probably be your decision.
To begin training in specialization you need
to visit your class trainer and place 1 point
into each of these skills. As with most skills
as you cast and play along you will increase
your skill. You may want to keep a close eye
on how your skills are progressing. Once you
reaach 40 in a skill you will want to stop
and train only the skill you want taken above
50. This is easily done by casting a spell
that is in the spell category. For example
if you decided to take Alteration over 50
you would want to find a nice spot and cast
a low level heal spell on yourself over and
over again until you have a skill of 51 in
that category. Then you can be sure that this
will be your main specialization skill.
Things will change for you as a druid and maybe the way you played at level 30 is not the way you play now. There is good news. you can reset your specialization skill by completing the following quest. This will place your skill at level 49 and then you can use the trick described above to choose a new specialization.
Resetting
your specilization skill:
In the Temple of Solsek Ro visit Ostorm he
can be found at loc +440, -80. Depending on
your faction you may have to kill shadowed
men in WC or SK get your faction up. You must
be at least indiffrent to him or he will eat
your items. Give him 1 ruby and 50 gold pieces.
Not 5 plat pieces 50 gold pieces. When you
do this your skill will be taken down to 49
and you can choose a new specialization skill
to take over 50.
