All
you ever wanted to know about Dire Charming.
Ok having to have learned all of this the
hard way. I figured I'd pass all the info
I have gathered along the way. Here is just
about everything you should need to
know about Dire Charming and how to handle,
buff, and equip your pet. At the bottom you
will find a list of items useful for your
pet. This is in no way a complete
list. Just item's that most people tend to
like and use
Q: Can xxx mob duel wield?
A:Only one way to find out. when your pet w/o weapons hits it usually say's ' fuzzy bunny HITS stinky orc for 100points of damage'. Ok first thing you wanna do is make sure your pet can take 1 weapon so hand him a 1 hand slashing weapon. If he can use it you'll get this message ' fuzzy bunny SLASHES stinky orc for 100 points of damage'. If you get that message then woot he can handle a weapon. Now we give him a 1 hand piercing weapon. you should get fuzzy bunny SLASHES stinky orc for 100 points of damage' AND 'fuzzy bunny PIERCES stinky orc for 100 points of damage'. If you don't get both then he can't duel wield.
Q: My pet won't hit for more than 149 dmg no matter what I do. What's up with that?
A: Sony put in a damage cap for Most Dire Charmable mobs. I have heard that in the elementals the cap is much higher but I am not there and cannot confirm it. Only way to increase DPS is to haste your pet and or give it weapons that will proc.
Q: How much haste can I give to my pet?
A: Our class spell 'Savage Spirit' will haste a mob up to 70%. It's also on the clicky 'Sand Eroded Shell'. This is a kickass spell and will significantly increase the dmg output of your pet. Now this spell haste will stack with a item 'worn haste' so you can equip your pet with a 'Muzzle of Mardu' 10% haste [mage summoned no rent] or the more powerful 'Velium Swiftblade' 35% haste 1 hand slash usually sells for around 1k plat. With the Velium swiftblade you are looking at around 100%+ haste. You can recover the blade by killing your dire charmed pet after you are finished with it.
Q: My pet does not proc on the mage summoned weapons. Why?
A: Currently the 'Hand of Ixblat', 'Blade of walnan', and 'Blade of the Kedge' does not proc on our dire charmed pets. This could be because the 149 point damage cap "the proc on these items is 150". Supposedly the fists are supposed to be able to proc on a lvl 12 mob so this is the only reason I can figure. I tried dueling a 65 warrior and seeing if I could get them to proc and they never did so suffice to say it doesn't.
Q: Weapons, what should I give to my pet now that I know it can duel wield?
A: Ok we now know that the max damage is 149 a hit. So there are only 2 reasons to give your pet a weapon. to force it to duel wield and also for procs, if the weapon has it. Check out the bazaar and see what is cheap. Velium weapons velium long sword's also have a low lvl proc that will work ' velium shards' 12 dmg. 'Gnoll Hide Lariat' has a stun proc which is good if you are using you pet as a tank in a group but very bad if you are using it to aggro kite as stuns have a large aggro to em. And of course the 'Velium Swiftblade' with the 35% haste. If you play well without any link deads or server crashes you should never loose your weapons, just kill pet after you are done. Keep in mind a pet will not take a 2 handed weapon. See below for several diffrent types of weapons that are good for your pet.
Q: What mobs in what zones can be dire charmed?
A: Here's a list: Dire Charmable Mobs There are some that are not on here but this covers the majority.
Q: Ok I have been told that I should buff my pet before Dire Charming so that Dire Charm won't be dispelled. Is this a good Idea?
A: Nope. Sony has now fixed dispell it will not longer take the spell out in the first spell slot. It now randomly affects diffrent spell slots so this is in no way a guarantee that your DC will not be dispelled.
Q: Is a Dire Charm worth the trouble?
A: In many circumstances YES ! A properly buffed Dire Charmed pet can out damage your main tank many times. They are serious DPS, but they can also be a problem some times. Depending on where you are hunting and where the Dire Charmed mob is it can be a real hassle to get a DC pet to your camp and they tend to aggro on other mobs alot even when you don't send them after it. You can also bring a Dire charmed pet into the Plane of Justice trials which really adds to the DPS, which is vital to success in the trials.
Q: What buffs should I have on my pet?
A: Depends on what you are gonna use him for. If you are aggro kiting a str buff and savage spirit are enough. If the pet will be tanking in a group then. savage spirit, your best skin buff, a dmg shield, and some sort of regen are great. Plus you might want to get a 'Girdle of magi'kot' or a Belt of magi'kot. The girdle adds 500 hp's and the belt adds 250 hp's both are mage summoned no rent items. This and you skin buff will boost your pet HP's up by 1000. Gnoll hide lariat if a good weapon choice for tanking cause it procs a stun and it's cheap.
